The Power of Thanksgiving - There is a Time for Everything

Today was the first snow of the season! Facebook was buzzing with folks all over expressing their love or hate of snow. Others were poking fun at the drivers who, every year, act as if they've never driven in snow before.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 states "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens..."

I grew up with the changing seasons, but later lived many years in the south where there was seemingly only two seasons, hot and brown or briefly, cold and brown. 

I thank God for the four season. Although cold is hardly my favorite temperature, I have learned to appreciate the good it does. Plant life hibernates to grow stronger in the spring, the insect population dwindles, and the earth rests under blankets of snow. This is also the season of holidays, snowmen, and a time to catch up on indoor projects!

The snow lures me to discover each morning the clues left behind from nightly visitors to our yard. I love waking up to fresh prints in the snow from the deer or the occasional fox.

   I find it harder to point out the negative aspects of this cold, white season when looking for and giving thanks for the sometimes hidden blessings. The power of thanksgiving allows me to relax and enjoy this time of the year instead of dreading it like so many others do.

    Oh, I miss the four seasons. I love snow, but don't miss driving in it! I am very thankful when the temp finally drops here (as it has recently), because it means I've made it thru another TX summer (I hate the heat). I guess you can take the girl out of OH, but not OH out of the girl... :)

      Sarah, I lived away from Ohio for over 30 years. I too missed the seasons when we lived in Texas. It was good to come back to Ohio about this time 6 years ago. Each season brings something to look forward to.

    As you know, I don't necessarily look forward to the cold and snowy season but I've learned to not dread it either. In fact, I enjoy the change of scenery and exploration it ushers in as I spend time in the woods or just outside photographing. And here in the north, it's the anticipation of the Thanksgiving and Christmas season and family gatherings too. Then again, it makes the other seasons all the sweeter as well. I'm thankful for all of it.

      I am so glad you are finally to a place where you can somewhat enjoy the winters here in Ohio. Photography has certainly changed the way you look at things these days. Gotta love it!

Christmas tablescape

I enjoy creating tablescapes. Whether it is for a holiday or just a special meal with family or friends, I like making the table "special". Tablescaping is another way to express my creativity. I will see a dish or piece of art (Pier 1 is my favorite place to be inspired) and just have to buy it! I can almost see a table done with one inspiration piece. My honey gave up on me a long time ago with telling me "no more dishes" or "you don't need that" and just goes with the flow now, although I still get the occasional lifted eyebrow. I've had a few friends ask me what a tablescape is and although there is no true definition, it simply means making your table special by using props, decor and coodinated place settings to create a mood or atmosphere. Five Minute Friday - Soon I feel like I am still in the same situation I’ve been in for way too long. I have friends where I live, but I don’t feel like I have close friends. We’ve lived here for 15+ years and yet it’s my out of state friend that will call to check in on me.   It’s been tough lately. Emotionally anyway.   I lost my oldest brother a year ago, and I feel like I still haven’t snapped back into life as it was before.
